Here are some key important facts about blindness in India:

 

  • There are 15 million blind people in India; this equates to a staggering third of the blind people in the entire world!
  • Each year, around 3 million people in India develop cataracts in their eyes
  • There are some 2 million blind children in India but only 5% of them receive any education

Sadly, if you are a blind person in India you can often become a social outcast and you are unable to work or fend for yourself and look after your family.  With a major eye problem, life for the blind in India is simply awful.

 

BUT, with your help, 80% of blindness is preventable or curable.  With appropriate treatment, an immense difference is made to both to the quality of life and economic prospects for those blind people who receive help.  This is where Eye Camps play a role.
