Dr. Shefali R Parikh

After finishing her Masters in Ophthalmology, Dr. Shefali R Parikh did her specialization in glaucoma from world renowned L. V. Prasad Eye institute, Hyderabad. Subsequently she was invited to Lund University, Sweden for Glaucoma Research fellowship following which she worked as a faculty at L.V. Prasad Institute, Hyderabad for nearly 2 years.  

 

After coming back to Mumbai in 2008, she joined Lotus Eye Hospital and started Glaucoma Department. She worked in Lotus Eye Hospital as Head, Department of Glaucoma for 4 years. Along with Dr. Rajul Parikh, she fulfilled her long cherished desire of starting tertiary care centre for Glaucoma in Mumbai in December 2010. Shreeji Eye Institute & Research Centre and Palak’s Glaucoma Care Centre is a hi-tech, fully equipped, state of the art glaucoma Care centre located in the heart of the city: Andheri. Shreeji Eye Institute & Research Centre and Palak’s Glaucoma Care Centre is progressing under her able guidance as Chairperson & Medical Director. Her main areas of interest are Glaucoma and Anterior segment. She has contributed enormously in glaucoma academics as well as a Co-chair of  first ever Glaucoma Guidelines, published by Glaucoma Society of India in 2022.  She was unanimously elected as West Zone representative for Glaucoma Society of India 2020 – 2022. She is invited faculty for several State, National and International Glaucoma meetings and has delivered more than 200 lectures. She is also recipient of various awards naming a few  “Achievement award” for recognition in field of Glaucoma by ‘Women Ophthalmology Society of India’ in 2021, ‘Glaucoma Society of India honour award’ for National & International work on Glaucoma Research, 2022, Late Prof. E Ahmed Memorial Oration Award” from Association of Community Ophthalmologist of India, 2024. She has been Principal investigator / co-investigator for various clinical trials.

 

She has vast surgical experience. She has performed more than 5000 glaucoma surgeries like trabeculectomy, phaco-trabeculectomy, advanced glaucoma surgeries like Glaucoma Valve Implant surgeries, Minimally Glaucoma invasive surgeries. She has also performed congenital glaucoma surgeries in pediatric patients including surgeries in patients with Axenfield – Rieger syndrome, Aniridia, nanophthalmos. She is also very competent cataract surgeon and has performed than 20000 cataract surgeries.

 

She is academically also very strong and has published extensively in peer reviewed journals. She has nearly 50 publications in peer reviewed and non peer-reviewed journals and 7 chapters in various Textbooks. She has been invited to deliver lectures at various state level and national AIOS annual conference, Glaucoma society of Indian annual conference. So far, she has delivered more than 150 invited lectures.

 

She is also very active in teaching and has delivered several lectures to improve awareness regarding Glaucoma at public platform. She has organised conference for basic and advanced glaucoma course. To generate public awareness in glaucoma, she has also organized various public meetings and eye camps, has published articles in numerous regional languages in local magazines, has been part of various radio talk shows during world Glaucoma week.
