Dr. Rajul S Parikh

Dr. Rajul S Parikh did his Masters in Ophthalmology from Christian Medical College & Hospital. He was awarded Thomas Koshy gold medal in M.S. Ophthalmology for best resident in Ophthalmology. After finishing his Post-Graduation, he was invited to Lund university, Sweden for advanced training in glaucoma and research. After coming back from Sweden in 2003, he joined renowned L. V. P Eye Institute, Hyderabad as a consultant where he worked as a consultant for nearly 4 years.

Along with Dr. Shefali Parikh, he fulfilled his long cherished desire of starting tertiary care centre for Cataract and Glaucoma in Mumbai in December 2010. Shreeji Eye Institute & Research Centre and Palak’s Glaucoma Care Centre is a hi-tech, fully equipped, state of the art glaucoma Care centre located in the heart of the city: Andheri. He is also attached to Dr. L. H. Hiranandani Hospital (Powai), as a Visiting Glaucoma and anterior segment Specialist. His main areas of interest are glaucoma, cataract and neuro-ophthalmology. He is Society Editor for “International Glaucoma Review” and Member of Education Committee of World Glaucoma Association since January 2018. He has contributed enormously in glaucoma academics as well as a Chief Editor of the first ever Glaucoma Guidelines, published by Glaucoma Society of India in 2022. Maharashtra Ophthalmological society bestowed him with Prestigious FDC award for glaucoma Pharmacotherapuetics for his research and contribution in glaucoma management and Bell Pharma Award for Surgical innovation. Recently, Association of Community Ophthalmologist of India awarded him “Late Prof. E Ahmed Memorial Oration Award”.

 

He has vast surgical experience. He has performed more than 6000 glaucoma surgeries like trabeculetomy, phaco-trabeculectomy, advanced glaucoma surgeries like Glaucoma Valve Implant surgeries, Choroidal Drainage procedures, Scleral Patch graft for bleb leaks, surgeries for cyclodialysis cleft repair. He has expertise in childhood glaucoma surgeries and has performed more than 200 childhood glaucoma operations.

 

He has written chapters in 17 books including international publication like World Glaucoma Association (WGA) consensus book on Screening for Glaucoma”; 2008, World Glaucoma Association (WGA) consensus book on Medical Management of glaucoma”; 2010, Glaucoma 1st Edition; Editors Shaarawy, Sherwood, Hitchings and Crowston; 2009. He has published extensively in peer reviewed journals. He has 63 publications in peer reviewed journals and 17 in non peer-reviewed journals. 

 

He has been invited to deliver lectures at various national and international conferences that includes World Glaucoma Congress, South East Glaucoma Interest Group meeting, American Academy of Ophthalmology, Asia Pacific Ophthalmology Association conference, International Congress on Glaucoma Surgery, AIOS annual conference, Glaucoma society of Indian annual conference. So far, He has delivered more than 250 invited lectures.

 

Achievements

  1. Chief editor of first “Glaucoma Guideline” from glaucoma Society of India published in 2021
  2. Organizing secretary of a national level glaucoma conference: “Glaucoma Unplugged” held between 7th to 9th October 2011 in Mumbai.
  3. Advisory board member of various multinational companies in helping them develop new drugs for glaucoma
  4. Was Advisory board member of “world glaucoma Association” from 2005 to 2017 which is a parent organization for 160 glaucoma societies across the world
  5. Society Editor for “International Glaucoma Review” since January 2019
