Who is a ‘Glaucoma Suspect’?
An individual in whom early glaucomatous changes are suspected for one or more of the following reasons:
1.Intraocular pressure recorded to be higher than the statistically determined average on few occasions. e.g. more than 21 mm Hg.
2.Family history of Glaucoma.
3.Occludable angles on gonioscopy
4.Optic disc changes suggestive of glaucoma.
5.Suspicious visual field defects on Automated Perimetry.
These individuals are not termed as “glaucoma suspect” patients till definitive proof suggests progressive changes. Hence this group of patients needs to be on regular follow up in order to diagnose and treat the glaucoma early.
