III. 2001- 2002: Glaucoma fellow, L.V. Prasad Eye Institute, Hyderabad

I worked with various consultants in the glaucoma department for 15 months and improved my clinical and surgical skill. During this period I performed various laser and surgical glaucoma procedures. I also learned phacoemulsification and manual small incision cataract surgery during this period. During this period, I performed 300 cataract surgeries (approx. 75 phacoemulsification, 40 manual small incision cataract surgery, 15 trabeculectomies, 30 combined cataract and glaucoma surgeries, and 2 trabeculotomy - trabeculectomy for congenital glaucoma.
In addition to this, I assisted various surgeries like phacoemulsification, manual small incision cataract surgery, trabeculectomy, phacoemulsification – trabeculectomy, trabeculotomy - trabeculectomy for congenital glaucoma.

IV 2002: 2003: Guest Researcher, Department of Ophthalmology, Malmo university hospital, Lund University, Sweden

I worked as a guest researcher under experienced guidance of Prof. Anders Heijl to learn the finer nuances of HVF machine. I worked for the following projects:

  1. To develop normal limits for central 10-2 short-wavelength automated perimetry (SWAP)
  2. To identify the pattern of visual field progression in early manifest glaucoma trial (EMGT)

August 2005 – January 2007

As adjunct faculty, I worked in glaucoma OPD with Prof. Ravi Thomas and Dr. Rajul S Parikh. With these two glaucoma experts, I learned finer nuances of glaucoma management and improved my clinical and surgical skill. I also improved my knowledge in glaucoma diagnostics including automated perimetry, HRT, GDx and OCT, FDP, SWAP. I also use to have independent OR once a week where I use to operate glaucoma and cataract surgeries. I was also part of clinical research team in glaucoma department. We published literature regarding role of glaucoma diagnostic techniques like OCT, GDx. 

 VI 2007: Senior Consultant, Saduram Eye Hospital, Hyderabad
June 2007- November 2007

As senior Glaucoma consultant, I use to run independent OPD twice a week. I use to see general patients and glaucoma patients referred by other consultant from the same hospital and other ophthalmologist from surrounding area. My daily OPD use to be approximately between 60-70 patients. I use to have OR two times a week. Every OR I use to have paying list of 8-10 patients and 15-20 cataract patients from camp. Apart from my clinical work, my other responsibility involved teaching DNB students and clinical research. I also coordinated Glaucoma CME at the same hospital during my tenure.     

VII. 2008: Consultant & Head, Department of Glaucoma, Lotus Eye Hospital, Juhu, Mumbai From January 2008 onward

As senior Glaucoma consultant, I run glaucoma OPD four days a week. I see general patients and glaucoma patients referred by other consultant from the same hospital and other ophthalmologist from surrounding area. My daily OPD is approximately 30 patients. I have OR two times a week. Apart from my clinical work, my other responsibility involves teaching and clinical research.

  1. Has performed more than 2000 glaucoma surgeries like trabeculetomy, phaco-trabeculectomy, trabeculectomy with small incision cataract surgery and combined trabeculotomy-trabeculectomy

  2. Has expertise in advanced cataract surgeries like phacoemulsification, small incision cataract surgery. She has performed more than 6000 cataract surgeries and was trainer for phacoemulsification at L V Prasad Eye Institute. 

  3. Has performed numerous laser procedures like laser iridotomy, laser iridoplasty, and laser suturolysis

  4. Has performed complicated glaucoma surgeries like bleb revision, choroidal drainage, combined trabeculotomy-trabeculectomy

Activities for Glaucoma Awareness in General Audience

1. Glaucoma Interview on Radio: we were invited on 100.7 FM for glaucoma awareness in October 2012. The interview was done in both Hindi & English.
2. Glaucoma Awareness Week 2013:

  1. Glaucoma Walkathon: the volunteers were gathered in the front campus of CNM School on 10th March 2013. The inauguration of walk was done by our MLA Shri Amitbhai Satam. Nearly 150 people volunteered and walked to Santoba Hall with banners showing different glaucoma awareness messages.
  2. CAREER OBJECTIVES

I have nurtured a keen interest in the diagnosis and management of glaucoma throughout my training in Ophthalmology. I hope to pursue this interest in my career as an Ophthalmologist by doing a practice as a glaucoma specialist. I would also like to focus my efforts in research with regard to medical and surgical management of glaucoma.
